The Florida GOP and the billionaire Koch Brothers are waging an unprecedented attack on Florida’s Judiciary. This year, three excellent Supreme Court Justices are up for “merit retention” on the November 6 Ballot. Justices Lewis, Quince and Pariente are smart, honest and fair-minded jurists who happen to have authored opinions the GOP and the Koch brothers do not like.
This attack on the indepence of our Judiciary is a dispicable politicization of our legal system. We NEED a strong, independent Judicial branch of our government. If this effort succeeds, Governor Rick Scott will be able to “stack” the Florida Supreme Court with his hand-picked judges–we can all expect these individuals to be strongly anti-consumer.
Have you done everything you can and should to preserve our system of Justice in Florida? Written checks to support merit retention? Raised money?
If not, you CAN still get involved.
Tell everyone you know to vote “YES” to retain Florida Supreme Court Justices Lewis, Quince and Pariente! Post it on your FB and Twitter pages. Send out emails.
The FJA is coordinating the volunteer efforts in Broward County on the issue of merit retention. During the early voting period, volunteers around the state will man polling sites, smiling and handing out literature asking voters to retain the three Supreme Court Justices on the ballot. WE NEED YOU TO VOLUNTEER! This is vitally important to your clients and your practices! All volunteers will be given instructions on what to do, where to stand, etc. It is really a simple process.
Attached is a document detailing the Locations/Dates/Times that volunteers are needed. The locations are listed in priority order. The priority days are Saturday, October 27, Sunday, October 28 and Saturday, November 3rd. If these days fill up, we would like volunteers on the Monday, October 29th and Tuesday, October 30th as well.
Please give Daniel Starman a call to volunteer at (850) 224-9403, ext. 108 or by email to dstarman@floridajusticeassociation.org. As you can see, at this time we are woefully short of volunteers – I’m hopeful that by next Friday this chart will be completely full – please help make that happen.
We will have materials to hand out at polling stations available for pickup at the following locations:
